Donny delivers a promising debut

Our miRunners Platinum syndicate celebrated an exciting milestone last week, with Don Valiente, affectionately known as “Donny”, becoming the first horse from the new platform to step onto the racetrack. The talented 2YO made his debut in a competitive 1100m maiden at Gosford, and he certainly gave his owners plenty to be excited about.

Jumping cleanly from the barriers, Donny showed great professionalism early in the race. Jockey Rory Hutchings had to work a little in the early stages to secure the ideal position, eventually settling the colt perfectly one out and one back, where he travelled comfortably throughout the run taking advantage of barrier 4.

Gosford can be a tricky circuit for young horses, particularly with its tight home bend compared to the more spacious layout of the Kensington track where Donny has been doing most of his work. As the field turned for home, Donny momentarily lost his way around the bend, throughout the race he did a few things wrong, which is entirely forgivable for a two-year-old having his first race start.

Despite his inexperience and a few mishaps, Donny showed real determination late in the race. Once balanced, he finished strongly to claim third place, only 1.3 lengths from the winner in a very encouraging debut performance. Importantly, he was also conceding a 3kg weight advantage to the first and second placegetters, making the effort even more impressive.

Trainer Michael Freedman was very pleased with what he saw from our colt on raceday, particularly the way Donny handled the occasion and the race pressure first-up.

With that valuable experience now under his belt, our Pinatubo colt is likely to head towards a possible start at Wyong for his next run. Having already had his first day at the races, Donny is expected to take significant improvement from the outing.

For the owners involved in miRunners Platinum, it was a fantastic way to launch the new syndicate, and if this debut performance is anything to go by, Donny looks set to give his owners plenty of exciting moments in the future.

The 2026 miRunners Muster!

Just when you thought there was no value for money in Diesel…

The miRunners team is excited to introduce our latest addition to the stable, a precocious and powerful colt by Better Than Ready, affectionately nicknamed Diesel.

Purchased from the Alexia Fraser draft at the recent Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Diesel made an immediate impression from the moment he stepped onto the complex. He was one of those horses that had people talking from Day 1, a strong, forward, 2YO type who looks built to run early and run fast.

In a sale where Better Than Ready yearlings averaged over $45,000, securing Diesel for just over $28,000 (inc. GST) represents outstanding value and a fantastic result for our owners. He is a colt who ticks all the boxes physically and, importantly, comes at a price point that allows us to offer incredible accessibility without compromising on quality.

It was not just our team who were taken by Diesel. Leading Queensland trainer, Tony Gollan, the state’s reigning Champion trainer was among those impressed by the colt and will take on the role of training him. Tony has an exceptional record with early-running types, and we are thrilled to have Diesel in his care.

Adding to his presence, Diesel certainly looks the part. Like a certain superhero, he sports a distinct “S” marking on his chest, and with four white socks, he is a colt who means business both in the parade ring and will do when he hits the racetrack.

From a racing perspective, Diesel is perfectly placed. He is fully paid up for the QTIS Bonus Scheme and Magic Millions Race Series, giving him access to some of the most lucrative 2YO races in the country. The early aim will be the Magic Millions 2YO Classic, before reassessing his path and targeting the feature races that best suit his progression. With his natural strength and precocity, he shapes as the type who could develop into a contender as a 3YO onwards.

Diesel will be offered via micro-syndication, shares will be sold as a one-off payment with no ongoing monthly fees. It is a simple, transparent ownership model that makes getting involved easier than ever.

Unlike the diesel you are currently paying top dollar for at the bowser, this Diesel represents exceptional value for money.

Shares in Diesel will be available within the next week, and given the level of interest already, we expect them to move quickly. If you have been waiting for the right opportunity to get involved in a sharp, early-running 2YO with a leading trainer, this could be it. Email support@mirunners,com and register your name for the priority purchase list to be one of the first to secure your share.

Xtravagant Johnny is enjoying his pre-training

Xtravagant Johnny is now into week three of his pre-training with Jake Capewell and continues to handle the workload impressively well. He is thriving! He is eating everything put in front of him and carrying himself like a happy, healthy horse should. We are excited to watch his progress over the coming weeks and months as he edges closer to stepping out on the track for the first time.

Star Ambition returns to training

Star Ambition continues to show exactly why he is such a popular member of the miRunners stable, with the tough gelding once again demonstrating his resilience in the face of adversity.

He is certainly no stranger to setbacks throughout his career, but true to character, Star Ambition has taken everything in his stride and returned to the stable in terrific order following his latest hiccup.

During his last preparation, an unfortunate paddock incident saw him kick a fence while playing, resulting in a swollen fetlock and bringing his campaign to a premature end. While it was a frustrating interruption at the time, his recovery has been carefully managed with his long-term wellbeing front of mind.

It has taken a little longer than initially anticipated for Star Ambition to return to work, but we are pleased to report that he is now back in the stables at Edmonds Racing and thriving in his environment.

The team will take a patient and methodical approach from here, with Star Ambition set to undergo a prolonged pre-training block. This will ensure he has the time and foundation he needs before stepping up into more serious work.

As always, his attitude has been faultless, and it is this professionalism that continues to give the stable confidence that there are still plenty of good days ahead for Star Ambition.

Global Eclipse is a 4YO gelding by Pierata out of the Fastnet Rock mare Global Dream, combining speed, stamina, and a proven pedigree built for results. On the track, he has already shown he has what it takes, with 2 wins, 5 seconds, and 3 thirds from just over a dozen starts. His recent victory over 2000m at Pakenham and consistent performances over middle distances show he is tough and reliable. With his past performances, it makes him a horse that is hard to place in Victoria and so the decision has been made to place him in Queensland, where he will be set for bigger and better things – including Stakes races.

This is your chance to be part of a horse’s next chapter, experience the thrill of race day, and enjoy the pride of seeing the miRunners colours cross the line while being a part of the #miRunnersFamily.

Cobar heads to the paddock for a well-earned spell

Our beautiful 2YO gelding Cobar with Hayfields Racing is heading out for a well-earned spell. He has now completed 2 official barrier trials and in preparation for his next barrier trial completed a nice piece of work this week at Pakenham before he has pulled up a little shin sore and Charlotte feels he will benefit from a spell with some more time to develop and mature.

So, what exactly is ‘shin soreness’ in 2YO’s?

Shin soreness is a common condition in young racehorses, particularly those around two years of age beginning intense training. This condition, often referred to as “bucked shins” or dorsal metacarpal disease, primarily affects the front cannon bones, known anatomically as the third metacarpal or metatarsal bones. The problem arises when these developing bones are subjected to the repeated stresses of high-speed training before they have fully finished maturing.

The underlying cause of shin soreness is often related to the rapid onset of training combined with the natural development of bone in young horses. The cannon bones, still forming in 2YO’s, can develop microfractures along the dorsal cortex when exposed to the repetitive concussion of galloping or trotting at high speeds. Over time, the bone remodels and strengthens, but initially, this stress produces inflammation, pain, and occasionally visible swelling.

Clinically, horses with shin soreness often present with heat and swelling along the front of the cannon bones. Pain can be elicited when the affected area is palpated, and affected horses may shorten their stride or show reluctance to gallop at full speed. Lameness, when present, is often mild and intermittent.

Management of shin soreness generally focuses on rest and a careful adjustment of training intensity. Rest, often for four to six weeks, allows the affected bone to begin the natural remodeling process without additional stress. Gradual reintroduction to exercise is essential, as controlled stress encourages bone strengthening while minimising the risk of recurrence. Supportive measures, including proper shoeing and careful management of track surfaces, further reduce the likelihood of repeated injury.
