Meet Freddy (Pierata x Highland Daughter – Your Opportunity to be airborne with Bjorn Baker
Introducing Freddy, the exciting Pierata x Highland Daughter colt set to be trained by Bjorn Baker at Warwick Farm, NSW. Handpicked from the Glenlogan Park draft at the 2025 January Gold Coast Magic Millions sale, Freddy was secured for an incredible $44,000 (including GST). miRunners proudly owns 100% of Freddy, who is sired by the exceptional PIERATA, a Group 1-winning sprinter and the best-performed son of Champion sire Pierro. Pierata was a standout on the track, earning over $5.8 million in prize money and defeating some of Australia’s best sprinters, including Trapeze Artist, Bivouac, Nature Strip, and Redzel. His first crop of two-year-olds has already made a major impact, with five individual Group performers, including Gr.3 Chairman’s Stakes winner and Gr.1 Golden Slipper runner-up, Coleman.
Freddy’s dam, Highland Daughter, was a talented two-year-old herself, winning and at Group level. She has already produced stakes winner HIGHLAND BEAT who won two races as a two-year-old. Highland Daughter has had five foals reach the races, with four being winners, she is a proven mare with outstanding ability to produce high-quality racehorses.
Freddy’s second dam, RAYISA, was a stakes-winning mare who produced 10 racehorses, seven of which were winners, including stakes winner RYAN, who won 20 races including two as a two-year-old and Orso, another dual two-year-old winner.
His third dam, Rayisa, won three races and produced nine racehorses, with six going on to win. Notably, she produced LAURENS, the Champion 3YO in France, who won 8 races in total, three races as a two-year-old, and KINNAIRD, who was an outstanding early runner, winning five races as a two-year-old, three in succession and 6 in total.
Freddy is Built to be an Early Runner
With a pedigree packed with two-year-old success, Freddy has been purchased to target early juvenile racing, including the prestigious Magic Millions 2YO Series and other feature two-year-old races. His pedigree also suggests he has the potential to continue training on successfully at three, four, and beyond.

Hailing from a racing dynasty in New Zealand, Bjorn Baker has forged his own formidable career on Australian soil, becoming one of Sydney’s most successful and recognisable trainers. Now based at Warwick Farm, Bjorn is the trainer of Freddy, our striking colt by Pierata out of Highland Daughter – a Kyllachy mare who won as a 2-year-old and has already produced four winners from five to race.
Freddy’s pedigree is stacked with juvenile success. His dam line has consistently produced winners that not only win early, but win big. Highland Beat won seven races and was a multiple stakes winner; Ryan won 20, including two at two; Laurens won eight including three as a 2-year-old; and Kinnaird pulled off the remarkable feat of winning five races as a 2-year-old on her way to a six-win career. His sire Pierata was also precocious, winning as a 2-year-old before going on to claim nine career victories including the Group 1 All Aged Stakes.
With a pedigree like that and a trainer like Bjorn Baker, Freddy is in the perfect hands.
Bjorn’s path to the top of the racing world is as unconventional as it is impressive. Growing up under the guidance of his legendary father, Murray Baker, Bjorn’s early interests were more about punting than ponies. As a child, he was more likely to be found picking out unsuspecting punters to place bets for him than mucking out boxes. His first ride ended with him being bucked off a Shetland pony named Misty – and it was a long time before he got back on.
Despite a childhood immersed in racing, Bjorn initially turned away from the family business, earning a Bachelor of Pharmacy in 1999. He worked as a pharmacist in Sydney, and later lived and travelled with his wife Andrea in London and Dublin. But when the pull of racing finally proved irresistible, he joined his father’s stable and quickly made up for lost time.
In 2008, Bjorn and Murray formed a training partnership that delivered over 30 stakes wins in just three seasons, including Group 1 victories. In 2011, Bjorn made the bold move to go out on his own, setting up his own stable at Warwick Farm. Success came quickly, particularly with stayers, but it was the win of Unencumbered in the 2014 Magic Millions Classic that made the racing world stand up and take notice.
From there, the hits kept coming. Music Magnate delivered his first solo Group 1 in the 2016 Doomben 10,000, and Bjorn has continued to build a winning strike rate, Group victories, and major race success, including triumphs in the Magic Millions and The Quokka.
Bjorn Baker is now regarded as one of the sharpest trainers in the country – a master horseman with a rare instinct for talent and timing. With Freddy, he may just have another star in the making.
