miRunners Update September 2024

We hope you are well, we are excited to be entering spring with two of our most promising 2-year-old colts – the Farnan x I Am Excited and Farnan x Comprende colts  are both on track to take part in the first 2-year-old trials of the season on Monday, 23rd September at Royal Randwick. The trials will kick off at 9am, with coverage available on Sky Thoroughbred Central and called by the prominent racing personality Darren Flindell. These colts have been consistently impressive in their track work at home, and if all goes to plan, we will see them take their place in what will be a good indication of where these two boys are at.

Turning our attention to Rusty, our Brutal x Sponsored colt, he continues to progress nicely at Washpool Lodge. He is set to commence pre-training in the coming days before heading into Eagle Farm for a preparation. Once he is in at Eagle Farm, we will get a clearer picture of how far he can go this prep. We know there’s a lot of anticipation surrounding Rusty, and we are keen to see how he develops in the coming months.

For all the Cardiologist and Star Ambition owners, prize money payments will be processed this week. However, we have noticed a significant number of new owners haven’t entered their bank details into their miRunners account. Please log in via the miRunners website and update your bank details. If you are an existing owner, it is also a good idea to check that your contact and bank details are up to date. Once the payment is processed, it may take between 1 to 5 business days to appear in your account. Should you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out via phone at 1300 282 941 or email support@mirunners.com.

In other news, we were excited to see Strasbeau ready to return to the races recently.  Unfortunately, he had to be scratched due to a boil on his wither. He is now on target to race in a maiden event at Mindaire.  We are looking forward to seeing him back on the races.

With 6 of our 11 horses currently in pre-training or racing, things are starting to heat up. We are particularly eager to see how our 3-year-olds perform and to discover what our 2-year-olds have under the bonnet.

Lastly, I would like to thank everyone who attended the 2024 Stallion Parade Tour in the Hunter Valley – it was a huge success! A special thanks to Mick and Pauline at North for hosting us and allowing us to catch up with Dusty Tycoon and Zoushack, who both looked fantastic. It was also a privilege to see miRunners mentioned during the Kia Ora and Newgate Farm parades. If you haven’t visited the Hunter Valley yet, I highly recommend making the trip – it is a wonderful experience.

We truly appreciate the ongoing support from all our owners, and we look forward to an exciting few months ahead as our horses prepare for what is to come.

Kind Regards

Mick

FROM THE TRAINERS

Missy’s has embarked on life in Victoria

Missy, our grey Dundeel filly out of New York Lights, is quickly making a name for herself under the guidance of trainers Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman at their Pakenham stables in Victoria. Since arriving just over two weeks ago, Missy has shown potential, handling the transition to the stable seamlessly. Peter Moody has said how well she has adjusted, commenting on her impressive work under the saddle and confidence out of the barriers.

One of the key reasons for Missy’s smooth transition is the exceptional early education she received at Emeran Park. The team there played a crucial role in breaking her in and setting her up for success before she made the move to Moody Racing.

This week, Missy will step up her workload as Moody and Coleman focus on increasing her fitness. While her training intensifies, they will keep a close eye on her shins and joints, ensuring that she continues to progress without any issues. Her development will be carefully managed to prepare her for future racing, a journey that her owners are eagerly anticipating.

Shannon Benjes (formerly Betts), who worked closely with Missy during her early education, and miRunners head of bloodstock Mick Malone are both excited about her future. Both have a high opinion of Missy and are looking forward to seeing her progress under Moody and Coleman’s influence.

Missy has quickly become one of the most popular horses in the miRunners stable, and it’s easy to see why. Her calm temperament, strong work ethic, have made her a standout.

Shares are still available in Missy via the miRunners website or the miRunners Store.

WHAT’S NEWS

Stallion Parade 2024 – A weekend to remember in the Hunter Valley

The annual miRunners Stallion Parade Tour in the Hunter Valley, NSW, was another incredible success this year, providing a unique and memorable experience for our owners. Over the weekend, we visited some of the finest stud farms in the country, showcasing the champion stallions behind our horses and others at the top of their game in Australian racing.

Our first stop was at Yarraman Park, where the Mitchell family proudly paraded their champion sire, I Am Invincible. Known fondly as “Vinnie,” he looked nothing short of spectacular, a true standout among the elite stallions of Australia. Alongside Vinnie were Brave Smash and Hellbent, two more outstanding stallions on the Yarraman roster, with Brave Smash being of special interest to our miRunners family, as the sire of Rush Attack and half-brother to our very own Rusty.

The next day was action-packed as the group headed to Newgate Farm and Kia Ora Stud, concluding the day with a visit to North, where we had the pleasure of catching up with Zoushack and Dusty Tycoon. The Newgate Farm parade was particularly impressive, with an extraordinary line-up of 17 high-quality stallions. Among the group were Cosmic Force and Brutal, both of whom are sires of our own Divine Existence and Rusty, respectively. The presentation and hospitality at Newgate were first-class, leaving our owners in awe of the stunning stallions and the professionalism of the team.

At Kia Ora Stud, we were treated to an equally brilliant draft of stallions, including Farnan, Captivant, and Prague. It was exciting for our owners to see Farnan, the sire of our colts Farnan x Comprende and Farnan x I Am Excited who are showing promise at Tulloch Lodge. Our Farnan x Reprimand colt is currently spelling at Whispering Pines on vets advice.

The weekend concluded on Sunday morning with a visit to Vinery Stud, where we saw Star Turn, the sire of Star Ambition. Star Turn was presented alongside other exceptional stallions such as Ole Kirk, Exceedence, Headwater, All Too Hard and the old boy Casino Prince and the new arrival, Hawaii Five O. It was a fitting end to a weekend filled with remarkable horses and warm hospitality.

The miRunners team would like to extend a heartfelt thankyou to all the owners who attended the weekend. Your passion and commitment are what make events like this so special, and we truly appreciate the effort made to travel to the Upper Hunter each year. As always, the Hunter Valley did not disappoint, and we look forward to doing it all again next year!

For those who haven’t experienced the Hunter Valley Stallion Parade Tour yet, we highly recommend adding it to your calendar—it is an unforgettable experience, and the perfect opportunity to see the sires behind our horses and to meet fellow owners who share your passion for racing.

Exciting times are ahead for the miRunners Farnan Partnership as two of our promising 2-year-old colts, Farnan x Comprende and Farnan x I Am Excited, prepare to make their debut at the first 2-year-old trials of the season. The first trial of the morning kicks off at 9 am, with coverage available on Sky Thoroughbred Central and called by Darren Flindell.

These colts are being prepared at Tulloch Lodge under the care of Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, the best trainers of 2 year olds in the world. Both colts are described as precocious, forward types who have continued to show promise during their current preparation. Adrian Bott has provided glowing feedback on their progress.

Speaking about the Farnan x Comprende colt, Bott said, “He is a nice running type who has continued to build on his work. He has been full of running through the line. He is a natural, precocious type who we are very pleased with.”
