miRunners Update August 2024

Welcome to the August edition of the miRunners newsletter! As we gallop into the new racing season, I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new owners who have recently purchased units in miRunners racehorses for the first time. Your journey with miRunners is just beginning, and we are thrilled to have you join our passionate community.

To our long-standing owners, thank you for your continued support and dedication. Your belief in miRunners and the dream of racehorse ownership has been the cornerstone of our success.

A special acknowledgment goes out to the Bernborough owners. Your collective passion for miRunners and racehorse ownership has been truly inspiring. Eileen Perry has been a pivotal figure in this journey, with her previous ownership of Dusty Tycoon. Eileen continues her involvement with Rusty, our promising Brutal x Sponsored colt, who will be trained by Rob Heathcote at Eagle Farm.

We also want to recognise the exceptional training efforts of Toby Edmonds, who narrowly missed out on the Gold Coast trainer’s premiership. Toby’s patience and dedication have been instrumental in kicking off the career of Star Ambition, and we are immensely grateful for his contributions.

A heartfelt thank you to the owners who attended the Tulloch Lodge stable visit recently. The Farnan x I Am Excited colt and the Farnan x Comprende colt are progressing well in their preparations. Gai and Adrian have high hopes for the Farnan x I Am Excited colt, believing he has the potential to race this preparation. He is a robust and strong two-year-old, reminiscent of his old man.

We are delighted with how well Cardiologist and Strasbeau have returned to their new preparations. Cardiologist’s back-to-back third placings mark a significant improvement from his initial runs as a colt. The Price Kent team has been exceptional in bringing back geldings, and they believe Cardiologist is on the brink of a win.

As we celebrate the birthdays of our stable of horses, we look forward to seeing our three-year-olds tackle the upcoming season and watching our newest draft develop as two-year-olds. We are so proud of the way the miRunners family has come together over the past two years since Darren purchased 100% of the business. We are excited to continue growing the miRunners family this racing season and hope that Mother Racing looks after us along the way.

Thank you for being a part of the miRunners journey. I can’t wait to catch up with as many owners as possible this season at the races or an owners event.

Kind Regards

Mick

FROM THE TRAINERS

Showcasing our talented two year olds

Two of our standout 2-year-old colts are the Farnan x I Am Excited and Time To Reign x Guapa, each boasting impressive pedigrees and being trained by some of the most respected names in Australian racing.

The Farnan x I Am Excited Colt, secured at the 2024 Gold Coast Magic Millions Yearling Sale for $1,200,000, has been turning heads since his arrival at Tulloch Lodge. Under the expert guidance of Hall of Fame trainer Gai Waterhouse and her training partner Adrian Bott, the colt is showing all the right signs of a promising racing career.

Sired by Farnan who was the Champion 2-year-old of Australia for 2019-20, his early career success has positioned him as one of the most sought-after young sires in the country. With his dam being a high-achieving mare by Snitzel, I Am Excited earned over $1,200,000 in her career, securing victories in Group 1, Group 2, and Group 3 races. Her pedigree and performance have set high expectations for her progeny.

A recent visit to Tulloch Lodge provided insight into the colt’s development, with both Gai and Adrian expressing confidence in his potential. He is not far from making his debut, and the stable is enthusiastic about what lies ahead.

Over at Warwick Farm, another miRunners colt is preparing to make his mark. Purchased for $150,000 at the Gold Coast Magic Millions, this colt by Time To Reign out of Guapa has been settling in well under the care of Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald.

Time To Reign, with a 60% winners-to-runners strike rate, is a half-brother to the renowned Golden Slipper winner She Will Reign. Guapa has proven herself as a consistent producer of winners, with her progeny showing versatility across a range of distances. Our colt is her sixth living foal, and all five of his racing siblings are winners, including multiple Group winner Chica Fuerte.

Annabel Neasham, known for her string of Group 1 successes, is particularly excited about this colt’s potential. His strong pedigree and early promise make him one to watch in the upcoming racing season.

As both colts continue their preparations, the excitement around their potential grows. With pedigrees rich in racing success and trainers who are among the best in the business, these colts are poised to bring miRunners owners plenty of thrilling moments on the track.

Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to their debuts, and be sure to keep an eye on these promising young talents as they embark on their racing careers.

WHAT’S NEWS

Get excited about the marvels in our stable

We are very proud of the stable we have put together over the past 20 months and are really looking forward to seeing our 2023 draft hit the track as 3-year-olds. Also, like many of you, we have been watching our 2-year-olds develop with great excitement and anticipation.

Two horses who are part of our ‘family’ but outside our stable, Yendy and Aardvark,  are currently racing and are proving the lines of our own stable are right on the mark.

Yendy, a 4-year-old mare by Magnus out of the mare Guapa, has scored three wins from her seven starts.  Trained by Ciaron Maher at Warwick Farm, Yendy recently added another win to her record at Hawkesbury over 1100m. Bought for just $20,000 at the 2022 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, Yendy has proven to be a fantastic purchase for her owners. Foaled on September 28, 2020, Yendy is just one of the five runners that Guapa has sent to the races and they have all won. Yendy’s success is especially exciting for us being the half-sister to our Time To Reign x Guapa colt. Her achievements give us high hopes for what’s to come with our colt.

Aardvark, a 3-year-old colt by Capitalist, whose dam is out of the mare Sponsored. Sponsored is also the dam of our miRunners horses Rusty and Dusty Tycoon, making Aardvark part of the family. Aardvark has already made a name for himself, winning the listed Talindert Stakes over 1100m at Flemington this past February. Trained by Leon and Troy Corstens at Flemington, Aardvark was purchased at the 2023 Magic Millions Sales for $240,000. He has also impressed with a third place finish in the listed MRC Debutant Stakes, a race won by Golden Slipper place-getter Coleman. Aardvark’s success shows the incredible potential of horses from this bloodline, reinforcing our excitement about Rusty.

Rusty, sired by rising star Brutal and out of the mare Sponsored, is a half-brother to Aardvark and Dusty Tycoon. Rusty’s development at Washpool Lodge is coming along nicely, and his lineage suggests he is destined for good things on the track. Rusty’s potential shines even brighter with the recent win of his half-brother Rush Attack at Kembla Grange.

At miRunners, we are all about making the dream of racehorse ownership fun and rewarding. The success of horses like Yendy and Aardvark shows that we are on the right track within our stable.

See for yourself the exciting potential of horses like Rusty and the Time To Reign x Guapa colt, and be part of the future successes that awaits.

TRACKSIDE

Embracing our bright future

Cardiologist has been making steady progress with two commendable third placings at Sandown and Pakenham. The Price Kent Racing team has started the new season on a strong note with their stable celebrating consistent success on the track. Despite some tough luck with barrier draws, Cardiologist is gaining valuable racing experience and showing great potential.  The team believes he is on the cusp of a breakthrough, and we are excited to see what he can achieve as he continues to develop.

Our Time To Reign x Guapa colt is currently in another preparation at Rosehill under the watchful eye of Annabel Neasham. Annabel has a high regard for this colt, recognising his potential as a strong and progressive thoroughbred. While he is still green and learning the ropes, his current preparation has shown promising signs of growth and capability. We look forward to seeing how he matures in the coming months.

The Farnan x Comprende colt is shaping up to be a forward-looking type, drawing comparisons to his stablemate, the Farnan x I Am Excited colt. Both colts are displaying early promise, with the Farnan x I Am Excited colt standing out for his readiness and Gai & Adrian feel he is not far away from commencing his racing career. We are optimistic about his future and eager to watch his progress as he continues his training.

As we continue into the season, the dedication and hard work of our trainers and teams are unwavering. Each horse brings new experiences and lessons, and we are confident that these efforts will soon translate into more successes on the track.
