Key facts:

  1. Prize Money – Over $44million
  2. Total Wins – 1,353
  3. Group 1 Wins – 10
  4. Win Rate 12%

Robert’s first introduction to the world of thoroughbred racing was visiting the many racetracks of England where he worked with his brother, Wayne. He got to witness some of the world’s finest thoroughbreds in action, including the great Danehill.

Robert then decided to move back to Australia to settle down closer to home and start a family, and moved to Brisbane. His brother had a number of horses in training with many of the leading trainers at the time, and Robert soon became his racing manager, working with the trainers and regularly liaising with his brother on their progress.

Initially hesitant to take up the challenge of training racehorses with his limited knowledge, it was a challenge he was willing to face as he threw himself into the training world, absorbing as much information as he could in the early years.

Robert was granted his racehorse trainer’s licence in 1997 and he applied his life skills and commonsense to finish sixth in the Queensland Premiership in his first year with only a small number of racehorses in his stable. Constantly willing to learn and improve his skills, he sought advice from some of the industry greats and experts in order to improve his training philosophy.

Since 1997, Robert has trained over 1,300 winners and has been named Queensland Trainer of the Year a number of times. His Group One winners tally is now an impressive 10, with Buffering, the stable star, having seven alongside his name.

Robert trains miRunners Queensland community thoroughbred Written Tycoon x Sponsored, bought at the 2019 Magic Millions yearlings auctions.
