miRunners trainers leave their mark on the $11 million Magic Millions day

Fresh from a busy fortnight inspecting and buying some of the finest young horses Australia has to offer, newly announced trainers for miRunners dominated the spoils of the $11 million Magic Millions race day on the Gold Coast.

The Gold Coast locals Trent and Toby Edmonds trained Alpine Edge started the day off strongly with an emphatic victory in the Racing Queensland Magic Millions QTIS Open over 1300m. The son of Better Than Ready put in a career best performance to break a 76 week drought on Queensland’s richest race day. Team Edmonds also prepared Me Me Lagarde, who ran a nice third in the TAB Magic Millions Fillies and Mares race. The daughter of Star Turn is a dual stakes winner and has returned north of $700,000 in prize money for her owner/breeder Gerry Harvey.

Trent and Toby are thrilled to be training our son of Star Turn for miRunners and I am sure already have ambitions to be returning with the Gerry Harvey bred Chestnut in January 2024.

Tony Gollan was the winning trainer of the days feature race the Magic Millions 2yo Classic. Skirt The Law made it three from three in the $2million race, the daughter of Better Than Ready etched her name on the honour board at the Gold Coast with a two length win. The $170,000 purchase gave Gollan one of his proudest moments on the track. In a sweet piece of irony for everyone involved at miRunners, Tony will prepare the Better Than Ready/Pellergrina colt who was purchased for $77,000 last week. Gollan also provided the winner of the final race of the day when Vinco was first past the post in the Whispering Angel Magic Millions Cup.

Racings first lady, Gai Waterhouse and her Co trainer Adrian Bott, rounded out the trifecta in the 2yo feature with Platinum Jubilee and Summer Loving running and second and third respectively. Summer Loving is a daughter of Exceed and Excel and appears to have a big future ahead.

Waterhouse/Bott will train the Cosmic Force/Divine Stryke filly for miRunners. Cosmic Force, had his oldest progeny go through the sale ring for the first time in 2023, showed an electric turn of foot when the son of Deep Field won the Pago Pago Stakes by 7L in 2019. miRunners were able to secure a 25% share in the Exceed and Excel colt out of Heart of the Oak to be trained by Mick Price at his Cranbourne base. Price is no stranger to training quality colts and has a fine record in producing early 2yo speed with the two finest examples being Extreme Choice and Flying Artie. Both have gone on to leave group one winners in their short careers at Newgate Stud.
