A memorable windy Saturday at Emeran Park

Not even the strong winds could stop the excitement felt by owners who travelled to Emeran Park to visit their thoroughbreds this past weekend.  Over 150 owners made the trip to Emeran Park on Saturday to visit 3YO filly Not A Royal Doubt and four of our yearlings who were being paraded. Most in attendance had never had the opportunity to see their horse in the flesh before, so it was a day made just for making memories!  Following a brief spiel from miRunners CEO Steve Brown, each horse was paraded for owners and given the windy conditions, all yearlings…

Shezawitness takes fourth in a classy but heavy race

Shezawitness stepped out on the track for her second start this afternoon in Race 1 at Sandown. Despite there being just 5 runners in the race, it was a competitive field rallying it out on a very heavy track. Shezawitness jumped very well out the gates and put in a gutsy effort to finish 4th on a heavy 1 10 track, conditions that are difficult for any horse, let alone a young 3YO having just their second race start. One of our lovely owners filmed the race on her tv, so enjoy the race replay below: Post-race, jockey Lachlan King…

Bellarine Beauty set for debut race

Bellarine Beauty blitzed the field in her trial down the Flemington straight on a heavy track on Monday morning, winning convincingly over her rivals. Trainer Troy Corstens is thrilled with her progress this preparation, and is now looking for a suitable debut race within the next two weeks.  With limited units still available in this filly, you better buy in quick at just $198 per ownership unit and $15 per month ($5 per month for any subsequent units purchased). After her trial win on Monday, we expect her to be sold out in the coming week. Watch the impressive trial…

And the winning design is…

We’re excited to announce the winning silks design for Bellarine Beauty! Congratulations to Tim Gately who came up with this design, we all can’t wait to cheer her on wearing these colours! We thought we would ask Tim a few questions on his design, and see what he is going to do with his $213 VISA gift card! What influenced the design of these silks? The navy blue hooped sleeves on white represent Geelong’s champion team, the Cats. I believe, and the submitted designs confirm that this iconic image is what most people think of when you mention Geelong. The…

Shezawitness claims miRunners maiden

It’s a day to remember for miRunners and all 560 owners in the Mick Price trained filly Shezawitness, as she won Race 2 at Sale on debut earlier today. With certainty, we can say the 25 excited owners that made the trip to Sale Racecourse will never forget this day, along with the other 535 Shezawitness owners who were cheering her on from all around the country. It is also a day to remember for everyone at miRunners, as this marks our first win as a syndicate! Shezawitness jumped well out of the gates, settling fourth in the field before…

miRunners are celebrating eleven birthdays this year!

This week miRunners celebrates eleven birthdays, a big increase from last year where we were only celebrating six! On August 1st there will be extra love given to our thoroughbreds in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria as they are each classified as a year older. On Thursday 1st August all thoroughbreds in Australia will turn a year older. Those yearlings coming into their first preps will be qualified for racing and those who are two-years-old will become 3YO race-ready. We all know that not all thoroughbreds were born on the exact same day, so just how did it come…

The exciting and impressive filly by one of Australia’s leading sires in Not A Single Doubt is close to selling out, with only limited units remaining in 2YO Bellarine Beauty trained by Troy Corstens. A daughter of one of the most exciting sires in Australian racing, Not A Single Doubt, this filly has taken to training really well with her temperament, and has already well and truly proven herself on the track.  This filly is laid back, hard-working and focused, impressing trainer Troy Corstens time and time again. Bellarine Beauty will have her first trial of this preparation this coming…

Op-Ed: Innovation for television – what racing can learn from sailing

Golf, cricket and sailing… these are the three sports that struggled to ignite one degree of interest in me as a television spectator in my youth. When they came on tv, I would turn to a book until Dad flicked the channel over to watch the next race at Forbury Park.  Like many sports, golf, cricket and sailing have technical concepts requiring a degree of specialist knowledge for the viewer to remain interested. This makes it difficult for a novice to start watching without irritating a fellow viewer with questions. In the ’90s, expert television commentators were heavily relied on…

Written Tycoon to claim fourth consecutive leading Victorian Sires’ title

Written Tycoon will quite easily claim his fourth consecutive leading Victorian Sires’ title, experiencing another seriously successful season on the track.  As it stands, Written Tycoon‘s progeny have won nearly $9.8 million this season, with a new best for the stallion firmly on the cards should they earn a combined $340,000 before August 1. The total of 140 winners is short of the high-water mark of 153 last season but will represent at least his second-best season in that regard, as he currently sits seventh on the overall Australian Sires’ Table. Hee had a pair of Group 1 winners in…

What rest really means for a young thoroughbred

Sometimes we can get frustrated with our horse spending so much time resting in the paddock. However, studies have found that this rest time is necessary for a racehorse to fully develop and perform at their best, especially as younger horses.  Over a 12-month period, a typical thoroughbred in work spends between 42-60% of its time in training, with the remaining time turned out for a spell.  There are a number of reasons for giving a horse a lay-up from training. Lameness is the most common underlying reason, followed by viral colds, ‘tying up’, especially in fillies, “training off” after…

An impressive Double for Team Corstens at Ballarat

3yo’s Enrico Pallazzo and Tahlayla brought up a stirring Double for Team Corstens and Malua Racing at Ballarat on Tuesday, each winning their races in very different but definitive ways. After drawing wide in Race 4, 3YO gelding Enrico Pallazzo had to cover some ground and most of that without cover but gave his rivals a galloping lesson. In doing so, he recorded his first win, winning by an impressive 4.5 lengths.  In Race 7, 3YO filly Tahlayla brought up her 3rd win from her last 5 starts with a gutsy all the way victory, stretching out to 1400m for…

Toby Edmonds outshines the bigger trainers in Australia based on strike rate

miRunners trainer Toby Edmonds is no stranger to winning. In fact, he currently boasts the highest number of winners to the runners out of any trainer on the East Coast of Australia.  Edmond’s strike rate sits at a massive 20.50%, trumping all the big trainers in the industry including Chris Waller and Darren Weir. Below is a list of the top 15 Australian trainers ranked by strike rate for the 2018/19 racing season. With Toby Edmonds strongly leading the pack, it’s safe to say that if you’re after a winner, he is the trainer you want looking after your horse.…

A look back on the 2019 QLD Winter Carnival as it comes to an end

The 2019 QLD Winter Carnival is drawing to a close this Saturday, so we thought we would reflect on some of the great races we have seen this carnival! Across the carnival, horses were racing for a total of $18.4 million, an increase from last year.  There was a total of 32 Group races throughout the Carnival, which included 8 Group 1 races, 10 Group 2 races and 14 Group 3 races. Here we reflect on some of the great races we have seen this QLD Winter Carnival, and the emotions felt by some of those winning owners.  The G1…

Bellarine Beauty back in work – units at majority sold!

We’re thrilled to have Bellarine Beauty back in pre-training with trainer Troy Corstens at his Malua Stables in Geelong. After an impressive last preparation, we are looking forward to her hopefully making her race day debut in a few months. Last preparation Bellarine Beauty showed great promise in her two trials, mustering up speed in both and finishing off strongly to the line. Watch a replay of her latest trial below:   Trainer Troy Corstens is excited to have her back in work, and believes she will have an even more exciting preparation this time in. He loves how much…

Love your animal, own the experience – the rehoming of Saganaki to Team Thoroughbred NSW

miRunners places a strong emphasis on the rehoming of our retired thoroughbreds. Saganaki was forced to retire earlier this year due to damage to one of his tendons. It has been a long road to find the appropriate retirement plan for this thoroughbred, however, we are thrilled to announce he has begun his work with Team Thoroughbred NSW where he will be looked after during his retirement. Saganaki enjoying his new home About Team Thoroughbred NSW Team Thoroughbred NSW supersedes the NSW Thoroughbred Rehabilitation Trust, which has been providing retraining for racehorses to help them find quality new homes and…

Hinchinbrook continues his success on the track

3YO Champion’s Way capped off an impressive debut season with a convincing win in the 1600m G3 Lion Rock Trophy at Sha Tin on Sunday. The son of Hinchinbrook became just the second three-year-old to win the race and marked himself as the early favourite for next season’s Classic Mile in the process. He motored home against a strong field under jockey Joao Moreira, adding another group win for sire Hinchinbrook. The win marks the 6th win in 7 starts for 3YO Champion’s Way in his first season on the track. Watch the race replay below: Get involved with a…

Lyrical Girl wins even more fans with gutsy performance

Promising 2YO filly Lyrical Girl almost got the job done on Saturday at the Sunshine Coast in her second start, coming 2nd by just half a length to the winner and $2 favourite. It was a huge improvement from her first start at the Gold Coast just a few weeks back in tough conditions. She jumped well out of the gates and sat just behind the leader for the majority of the race, before peeling to the outside down the straight. Lyrical Girl and the winner Clever Miss were a good four lengths in front of the rest of the…

It takes a pretty special stallion to compile consecutive seasons of high performance – for example, top 10 Premiership finishes and double-figure stakeswinners. By those measures, Not A Single Doubt, who began his career at a $12,500 fee, is on a roll that now spans four seasons and his record & reputation continue to strengthen.
