There have been many great racehorses come out of the Inglis Easter Yearling Sales over the years, one of the largest yearling sales in the world. A thoroughbred that immediately comes to mind is 3YO The Autumn Sun, trained by Chris Waller.
The Autumn Sun was purchased for $650,000 at the 2016 Easter Inglis Yearling Sale and made his racing debut on April 25 2018. A colt by the great Redoute’s Choice, he impressively won his first two starts at Royal Randwick, and went on to win the Group 1 J.J. Atkins Stakes third up as a 2YO. Watch him come from 6 lengths behind to win in the race replay below:
This preparation, The Autumn Sun returned to the track in February 2019 following a four month spell. He put in a dominant run to come from last to beat the previously unbeaten Vegadaze by a long neck on the line. Watch the replay of the Hobartville Stakes below:
On March 9, he won the Randwick Guineas, beating the in-form Nakeeta Jane and Miss Fabulass. At the 400m mark, The Autumn Sun was about 10 lengths off Miss Fabulass and looked to be running out of time to close the gap. He was getting closer and closer to the leader through the straight and at the post he crossed the line first, winning by a short head to Fundamentalist who put in a gutsy run. Watch the replay below:
After the passing of super sire Redoute’s Choice, The Autumn Sun is set to eventually take his position at Arrowfield Stud. He is just one example of the great racehorses to come out of the Easter Inglis Yearling Sale, and has certainly cemented himself as one of Australia’s best racehorses.
