Despite the result, it was a great day out for over 60 owners who attended the debut race of Gaelic Puzzle at Warwick Farm Racecourse on Wednesday, March 13. Some even traveled interstate, which was amazing to see given her acceptance into the race was such late notice.
As it was a midweek race meet, all owners were given great access to trainer Bjorn Baker and jockey Michael Walker both pre and post-race, and of course everyone got to see Gaelic Puzzle getting saddled up in the stalls. View the below video of Bjorn speaking exclusively to owners pre-race:
Trainer Bjorn Baker gave up a lot of his time to owners, and was happy to get photos and even sign autographs on the day! Before the race, Bjorn and jockey Michael Walker spoke to owners about their plans for the race and how she would be ridden. View the video below:
Unfortunately, Gaelic Puzzle had no luck in the run from a wide barrier, and struggled to get going in the race. Trainer Bjorn Baker decided to put her out for a brief spell following the race, as he thinks she probably needs to get more exposure to having horses on her inside to prepare for her next race.
Regardless of the result, it was a great experience for all owners, with some not quite believing the access they got to trainer, jockey and most importantly, their filly Gaelic Puzzle. There was a bigger roar when she came back into the yard than there was for the winner, which really says something about our amazing owners. Below are a few photos from the day:
