The first three races at Warwick Farm on Wednesday March 13 were won impressively by a trio of promising Snitzel youngsters. Snitzel was an outstanding sprinter himself, winning seven of his fifteen starts, including the Group One Oakleigh Plate, earning over $1 million AUD in prize money during his career.
Although Snitzel had an outstanding career on the track, he has become even more of a phenomenon at stud. The Arrowfield Stud super stallion has been so dominant during 2017-18, he is Australia’s most expensive sire standing at a fee of $220 000.
The first race of the day was taken out by 3YO son of Snitzel, Green Aeon, trained by Bjorn Baker. The gelding showed plenty of strength and promise as he lead from start to finish to defeat the $2 favourite Full Recognition by an impressive two lengths over 1200m. Watch the replay below:
In the second race of the day, colt Cardiff broke his maiden status at his fourth race start, showing some real fight over the 1000m and winning by half a length. Cardiff has been contesting some serious races, including a last-start 5th in the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes a few weeks ago.
Trainer Gerald Ryan was impressed by the run, saying he looked relaxed and was strong to the line which impressed him and his team. Watch the replay below:
In the third race of the day, expensive purchase Evening Slippers broke her maiden status, holding off Godolphin trained filly Bollywood by a short head. Purchased for $1.8m at the 2018 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sales, Evening Slippers is the full sister to Group 1 winner Sweet Idea and Group 2 winner Showtime. Co-trainer Adrian Bott was impressed with the run, and hopes this win is the first of many. Watch the race replay below:
Leading sire Snitzel continues to produce winners of big races. Just last weekend, 4YO Trapeze Artist took out the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes at Royal Randwick, winning by a dominant one and a half lengths. Watch the replay below:
