It was a great weekend on the track for our miRunners trainers, with trainer David Hayes and his Lindsay Park team taking out the famous Group 1 Australian Cup and the Group 2 Kewney Stakes at Flemington on Saturday. Trainer Mick Price also managed to grab two impressive Listed wins over the weekend, winning the Listed Moomba Plate at Flemington and the Randwick City Stakes at Royal Randwick on Saturday.
On Sunday, trainer Bjorn Baker won the Listed Canberra Cup with Samadoubt, who led from start to finish to win impressively by over two lengths. A great weekend for our trainers, which really speaks to the quality of trainers we have training our miRunners thoroughbreds.
David Hayes and his Lindsay Park team scored an impressive win in the Group 1 Australia Cup on Saturday at Flemington with roughie Harlem defending his title. After not having won or placed in a race since his Australian Cup win last year at $61, Harlem fought back in the straight after looking beaten twice to win by a neck to Shillelagh. An incredible win for Harlem, who at $41 defied the odds yet again. Watch the impressive replay below:
This wasn’t the only impressive result for the Lindsay Park team on Saturday, with 3YO filly Spanish Whisper winning the Group 2 Kewney Stakes at Flemington. After sitting in 5th position for majority of the race, the filly made her move in the straight to win impressively by half a length to Victory Kingdom who tired in the last 100m.
3YO filly Anjana trained by Mick Price proved too strong for the rest of the field, winning the Listed Moomba Plate at Flemington first-up in a dominant performance. Having had a long break from the track since October 2018, Anjana was a drifter in the market but her experience racing in a few strong Group races previously in her career clearly shone through in her run.Â
4YO mare Hiyaam, also trained by Mick Price, put on a dominant second-up performance to take out the Listed Randwick City Stakes at at Royal Randwick on Saturday. She managed to lead from start to finish, holding on strongly to the line to win by a short head. She has now earned over $700,000 in prize money over her racing career so far. Watch the replay below:
