As each horse is different physically on type, on pedigree and on mental readiness, they will all hit the race track at different stages. This is great as nothing beats the feeling of waking up on a Saturday morning knowing you have a runner that day.
miRunners’ current batch of 2YO’s are all shaping up very nicely indeed. Of the six 2YO’s, three of them trialled pre Christmas which was very pleasing to see and two in Zoushack trained by David Hayes and Not A Royal Doubt trained by Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott raced as pre Christmas 2YO’s.
So whilst they are all unique in their preparations, as per the timeline above and assuming all goes to plan, it appears we are going to see Gaelic Puzzle trained by Bjorn Baker and Zoushack trained by David Hayes hit race day tracks around Australia first. Both of these fillies had their first trials of this preparation last week, and will most likely head to the races after another trial each. With Zoushack already having a debut run up his sleeve, he will be sure to benefit from the experience and come back stronger for it.
Gaelic Puzzle will next trial on February 25 at Canterbury Racecourse, and will look for a debut race if all goes well. Trainer Bjorn Baker has exciting plans for this filly, and if all goes ‘perfectly’ is aiming to have her compete during the Sydney Championships in the Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes for 2YO fillies, which has a prize pool of $1000000. We have a seriously nice filly on our hands with Gaelic Puzzle, and now that we have this dream in mind we want her to trial well and get her to the races as soon as she is ready.
March is also shaping up to be an exciting month for our miRunners 2YOs. Shezawitness trained by Mick Price is scheduled to trial early March, closely followed by the Not A Single Doubt x Countess Dehere filly trained by Troy Corstens. Following that we will see Not A Royal Doubt return likely late March into April which then leaves a hole for many race horse owners as the Sydney and Melbourne Winter Carnivals conclude.
Don’t despair however, Queensland’s leading trainer has been very astute in managing his miRunners filly in Lyrical Girl. Precocious enough to trial pre Christmas, Tony Gollan has a big opinion of this filly who was always going out after the positive growth experience of trialling. She is back in pre-training now and expected back into Gollan Stables in the coming weeks. See the latest image sent from Kolora Lodge of Lyrical Girl looking stronger than ever below:

Check out her sire Your Song winning the Group 1 BTC Cup (now known as the Kingsford Smith Cup) by 5 lengths. The Your Song breed sure seems to love the Queensland Winter Carnival:
And now check out her full sister Hollaback Girl smash the opposition on debut at Doomben Racecourse last year:
We hope to see Lyrical Girl hitting the track in the much sort after Queensland 2YO Winter Carnival which includes the races below:
With the excitement of Autumn racing extending in May and June, if you are looking wake up on those cooler Saturday mornings with a real spring in your step, you may wish to buy into the exciting Lyrical Girl trained by Tony Gollan. She is now at majority sold but has some ownership units remaining at $275 per unit plus $15 a month.
We say some…lock in your racing calendar now, before it’s too late. Don’t miss out on the excitement of Autumn racing and watching your very own thoroughbred hit the track! You’re in for an experience of a lifetime.
