It’s speed on speed for the new miRunners and Chris Munce partnership. Introducing miRunners second purchase of 2019, a gorgeous chestnut filly by the great Snitzel out of Typing. Having a filly by undoubtedly the most sought after sire Australia is something miRunners Head of Bloodstock Mick Malone is extremely excited about.
“What a filly to kick our 2019 year off with. A Snitzel filly out of a Sebring mare. A quality filly for you guys to get an opportunity to jump into” said Mick.
“And to think we secured this quality filly at such a price, when Snitzel stands for $220,000. He is the most expensive Sire in Australia” Mick went on to say.
Malone is no stranger to the Snitzel pedigree, and is ecstatic that he secured a filly by Snitzel at such a great price for miRunners.
“I’ve had a fair bit to do with buying Snitzel’s and I have had a lot of success. I bought a filly called Snitzerland who was a Group 1 winner, Golden Slipper placed, and she had a similar mould to this filly. She had that great length, really deep hip, lovely solid masculine head that Snitzel puts on his fillies and colts. Short cannon, big long forearm. All the stuff I always talk about, she has it.”
“She is from a good family. Typing, was a very precocious Sebring two year old. She was out very early, she won one of the first stakes races to be run in Australia of her year. And from the John Singleton family of Sugar Babe and On Type. A really really nice filly with a good pedigree. I couldn’t be happier”
miRunners successfully purchased her at the 2019 Magic Millions for $330,000 (including gst) which makes her available to purchase for $330 per unit with ongoing monthly fees of $15.
About Snitzel x Typing
This filly is by the great Snitzel, who was an outstanding sprinter winning seven of his fifteen starts, including the Group One Oakleigh Plate, and earning over $1 million AUD in prize money during his career.
Although Snitzel had an outstanding career on the track, he has become even more of a phenomenon at stud. The Arrowfield Stud super stallion has been so dominant during 2017-18, he is Australia’s most expensive sire standing at a fee of $220,000.
The sire’s record this season is impressive to say the least. Snitzel heads the General Sires’ Premiership not only by earnings, but also by winners at 170, via 289 wins, 26 individual stakes winners and 43 total stakes wins.
He is repeating that success in the Three-year-old Sires’ Premiership with earnings in excess of $10.2 million AUD, 71 winners, 119 wins, 12 stakes winners and 20 stakes wins in total. He also leads the Two-Year-old Sires’ Premiership by earnings exceeding $3.5 million and 6 stakes wins.
Snitzel this last season gone had 26 individual Australian stakes winners, including four winners of six Group 1 races — Trapeze Artist (Golden Rose, TJ Smith Stakes, All Aged Stakes), Estijaab (Golden Slipper), Russian Revolution (Oakleigh Plate) and the incredible Redzel (Darley Classic). Redzel has won The Everest two years running, the world’s richest race on turf.
The prize money won by Snitzel’s offspring during 2017-18 exceeded $28.3 million, which is nearly double the previous national record of $16.2 million he set last season. Accessing Snitzel’s progeny has previously been the domain of the super wealthy, and miRunners are excited that this is no longer the case.
He is undoubtedly the hottest sire in the southern hemisphere with 24 of his yearlings selling for $1 million or more in the last three years. During this period, his yearlings have been purchased for an average of $360,000 each. At the Magic Millions Sales in 2018, Snitzel had seven yearlings sell for $1m or more, with his 34 lots sold having an average purchase price of $478,000.
This filly is out of dam Typing, who won Australia’s first 2YO race of the year the Dalrello Stakes, which only the most precocious of young horses are able to run in, let alone win. The precocity presented by Typing merges a potentially potent bloodline with Snitzel, being the sire of this years Magic Millions winner and last years Golden Slipper winner.
Typing’s sire is Sebring who is by leading Australian sire More Than Ready, who sired Golden Slipper winners Sebring himself, as well as Phelan Ready.
Typing’s second dam is Zabeel delivering this cross one of the southern hemispheres most sort after female influences. The third dam is On Type, a G2 winning Zedative mare who won 6 races including two as a 2YO. She produced John Singleton’s Sugar Babe who was a G3 winner who also won 3 races as a 2YO.
Listen to trainer Chris Munce speak about the filly below:
Who is QLD based trainer Chris Munce?
Chris Munce was born in Casino, New South Wales and later moved to Sydney to take up full-time riding. During his early days, he built strong connections with leading trainers in Sydney, and was continuously given rides for the top stables in Australia.
Chris hung up his saddle after 29 years, only two years ago, to take on training so he could continue working with what he loves most, horses. Taking over from father-in-law Barry Mitchell, his new career as the trainer for Munce Racing was a long time coming.
As a trainer Chris is now developing his Eagle Farm stable with quality youngsters and notched up his first Group winner with two-year-old Ours To Keep in December 2016.
Most recently, Chris had the biggest win of his training career so far with Boomsara winning the $2m Magic Millions 3yo Guineas on the Gold Coast in January, 2019.
With 42 Group 1 races as a jockey to his name, including the Big Four – the Melbourne Cup, Cox Plate, Golden Slipper and Caulfield Cup – and having worked with Australian training training legends such as Gai Waterhouse and Bart Cummings, Chris’s ability to lead a horse to a successful win is perhaps no surprise.
Chris also will ride his horses under his training to get a real feel for them, making this trainer/filly a very special combination and experience for owners.
Chris Munce is fast becoming one of the most sought-after trainers in Queensland.
