The thrill of racing lights a fire in you you can’t put out. The search for the next champion to experience with your friends is what it is all about for owner John Cordina, and he wants everyone to experience the thrill.
As miRunners continues to ask some of Australia’s largest owners two questions about what it is that brings them back to thoroughbred ownership every year we hear from prolific owner John Cordina on why he just keeps buying thoroughbreds.
Not surprisingly, he too is always looking to find other owners to share in the ownership experience because he knows that an experience shared is more thrilling.
- What is it about the thoroughbred that draws you so passionately to ownership in such a big way?
There are probably a number of reasons.
The First horse I part owned Fairway was a champion racehorse and took the owners on a great ride that once experienced filled me with a passion to repeat the thrills that racing brought me. Once I achieved some success I simply got hooked. The increase in prize money and potential to breed my own horses were further incentives to expand my interests. Like all racehorse owners the desire to own the next champion is quite addictive.
The high media profile of thoroughbred racing has provided its own level of excitement and as an example I quote the experience of having Ace High racing on last year Cup’s! Experiencing such highs with family and friends is incredible.

- Of all the horses you have owned over time… If there was one particular horse that you have bonded with, who was it and why?
You bond with horses for different reasons so I have more than one horse that is truly special to me.
Fairway is first to mention because he was my first horse who won a Derby and also beat Sunline at Flemington in the Turnball which is in one of the most exciting races I have been associated with.
Gallant Tess as she was one of the first horse I bought on my own who turned into a great race mare and broodmare – Rock Hero, All Too Soon.
Centennial Park who provided me with some great thrills, the most memorable being winning On Derby Day at Flemington.
Ace High, the horse I bought to try and emulate Fairway’s Derby success and who did so winning the VRC Derby and hopefully with more success to come.

You too could experience ownership like John…
The list could be longer as no matter the horse you will find you cannot resist them, their ways and you will be hooked every time. That’s why John keeps coming back year on year to buy more of these amazing animals. You can experience premium thoroughbred ownership on the big stage alongside John for a fraction of the cost.
miRunners aims to bring the best horses together with the best trainers and make them affordable so anyone who has a passion for racing can come on the journey of premium level thoroughbred ownership.
As an owner you’ll receive your share of prize money, be invited to meet your horse, see it progress in the lead up to its first race, and you will receive regular video updates from your trainer.
