Rubick has already begun to live up to the hype of him being the highest-rated 2YO colt of his generation after one of his offspring secured his first win on Saturday.
The Darren Weir trained 2YO colt Yes Yes Yes, sired by the speed machine Rubick, stormed home over the final 200m to win impressively at Flemington in Race One on Saturday. Following the dominant ½ length win, Weir is now gearing him up for a spot in the Magic Millions 2YO Race on the Gold Coast in January. Ridden by Mark Zahra, Yes Yes Yes defeated Absolute Flirt by 1.5 lengths, with Favourite Things a further three-quarters of a length away in third.
Watch the impressive second-up win by Yes Yes Yes, the son of Rubick, below:
Jockey Mark Zahra was full of praise for the 2YO son of Rubick, commending him on his performance and his run down the Flemington straight.
“I had a beautiful run in behind them and then got a bit of room around the 500-metre mark so I eased him into it, he went through his gears and won very soft. Once he got a length on them he held them and he went pretty straight. He was very impressive.” Zahra said.
Although this marks Rubick’s first win by an offspring, there have been many minor placegetters amongst her 2YO raced progenies so far this campaign. In fact, two came on Saturday, with Waller trained colt Krameric finishing third in a Listed Race, and Kersley trained filly Rubic Rose losing by a nose on debut at Ascot. There’s no denying it’s an exciting time for Rubick offsprings – and there will be plenty more successes to come!
