miRunners bloodstock manager Mick Malone has been impressed by the Rubick X Slainte filly from the start. From his first viewing at Willow Park earlier the year, Malone said to miRunners CEO Steve Brown: “If there is one horse we cannot leave this Magic Millions sale without, it is the Rubick filly from Willow Park”.
If that doesn’t get you excited about the future potential of this race horse, here are five more reasons you should buy into the Rubick X Slainte filly trained by Bjorn Baker now!
1) Trained by top NSW trainer Bjorn Baker
Bjorn Baker began his training career in 2007 under the mentorship of his father Murray, who is one of New Zealand’s most successful trainers. In both the 2008/09 and 2010/11 seasons, Baker Racing won more prize money than any other New Zealand based stable. For three seasons Bjorn continued his partnership with his father in which they won over 30 Stake Races. Baker decided to embark on his own training career away from New Zealand and is now based out at Warwick Farm in Sydney.
Since basing in Sydney, he has produced many exciting runners with winners such as Winning Rupert, Unencumbered, Twilight Royale and Champagne Cuddles. Bjorn also claimed his first Group One win in the Doomben 10,000 in 2016 with Music Magnate, a highlight of his career so far.
Bjorn has established himself as one of Australia’s leading trainers and is very excited to be training his first miRunners horse. He is a dynamic operator with a massive future and is 100% behind miRunners and the owners who choose to join him in the Rubick filly.
- More than $26,000,000 in prize money
- Over 550 career wins
- Win percentage of 16%
- Place percentage of 42%
- Group One winner
Bjorn is also very personable, and shares much of his good humour and great information with his owners. Owners really love hearing direct from Bjorn, appreciating his open, fun and positive communication style.

2) Her impressive pedigree – sire Rubick is by the champion sire Encosta De Lago
The pedigree of Rubick X Slainte is extremely impressive, and reason in itself to buy into this beautiful filly.
Rubick is the highest-rated 2YO colt of his generation and is the most precocious son of Champion sire Encosta De Lago. Over his three year career, Rubick had eight race starts and managed to win a Group Two and a Group Three race. He recorded an impressive $379,000 worth of prize money in his short career before he was retired in 2015 to stud.
What is even more exciting is the fact that Rubick has already begun to live up to the hype of him being the highest-rated 2YO colt of his generation, after one of his offspring secured his first win on Saturday 15 December.
The Darren Weir trained 2YO colt Yes Yes Yes, sired by the speed machine Rubick, stormed home over the final 200m to win impressively at Flemington in Race One on 15 December. Following the dominant ½ length win, Weir is now gearing him up for a spot in the Magic Millions 2YO Race on the Gold Coast in January.
Although this marks Rubick’s first win by an offspring, there have been many minor place getters amongst her 2YO raced progenies so far this campaign. In fact, two came on the same day as Yes Yes Yes’s win, with Waller trained colt Krameric finishing third in a Listed Race, and Kersley trained filly Rubic Rose losing by a nose on debut at Ascot. There’s no denying it’s an exciting time for Rubick offsprings – and there will be plenty more successes to come!

Encosta De Lago was the leading Australian sire in 2008 and 2009 and boasts an incredible list of Group 1 winning progeny. From his eight race starts, he came away with three wins and three placings, accumulating in excess of AU$460 000 in prize money over his short racing career. The most famous progeny sired by Encosta De Lago was champion Australian sprinter Chautauqua, who retired just a few months ago. The eight-year-old gelding boasts six Group One wins and seven Group One placings from sixteen starts. Over his racing career, he won in excess of AU$8.8 million in prize money.
Her dam, Slainte, by Not A Single Doubt out of Academy Angel, was big, strong, athletic and extremely fast. She too broke track records over 1,000 metres and showed the explosive speed her sireline is renowned for.

3) Showing great character and personality
Bjorn is excited to get the opportunity to train the Rubick X Slainte filly, and already sees a lot of potential in her future as a racehorse.
Rubick X Slainte has been a big hit in the stables, and is described by all staff at Baker Racing as a pleasure to work with. She was held in very high regard by the team at Willow Park Stud, who even expressed a desire to join in the ownership in this filly.

The filly’s attitude has also been complemented. She is very mature and sensible and was the talk of Willow Park’s draft for her ability to handle the pressure of the sale: a very encouraging sign for any young racehorse.

4) Her good attitude on the track this preparation
Rubick X Slainte has already shown great potential on the race track so far. Bjorn Baker is excited by what this filly has already shown over her last preparation, and thinks she will return in the near year bigger and stronger.
Check her out leaving this 3YO in her wake during her first jump out just a few weeks back:
A nice sized filly with a real sprinting style, good girth and a nice hind quarter with a huge over stride, Rubick X Slainte is without any doubt a very athletic filly. Trainer Bjorn Baker has very high hopes of her, and the owners can expect this filly to show up reasonably early.
“She’s a lovely filly and I’m just looking forward to getting her going. She has shown ability on the track and that makes us very excited.”
