Every owner dreams of their horse becoming a champion on the track and winning big. February 2018 marked the introduction of a new annual race day put together by Inglis and the Australian Turf Club to help owners achieve this dream. The Inglis Race Day will be held annually on the second Saturday in February and has a prize purse of over $8 million.
The Inglis Race Day has been created to coincide with the opening night’s selling of the company’s first annual sale, the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale at Riverside Stables. In 2019, the annual Inglis Race Day will introduce two new additions to the race card – the new $2million Inglis Millenium Race for 2YOs and the revamped $1million Inglis Sprint for 3YOs. All yearlings purchased through an Inglis sale ring in 2018 will be eligible for the new races at the Warwick Farm meeting from 2019, should owners pay up for the race series upon purchase. With a prize pool of $2million, it will leave the Group One Golden Slipper as the only 2YO race in the southern hemisphere worth more prize money than the new $2million Inglis Millenium.
The introduction of these two new races boosts the prize money for the day to a massive $8million, making it the biggest race day of the year at Warwick Farm. Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster said the decision to put more money into the Inglis Race Series was to provide a direct boost to supporting clients.
“The Inglis Millennium will provide our clients with another great lead-up option into the Blue Diamond and Golden Slipper, just as the Inglis Nursery has proven in recent years with She Will Reign, Extreme Choice and Mossfun winning the Nursery on the way to Diamond or Slipper glory,’’ Webster said.
