Trainer Tony Gollan with the miRunners Your Song X Sheeznodoubt filly
It was definitely a Saturday of racing to remember for premier trainer Tony Gollan, who ran away with an impressive four wins from nine races at Doomben Racecourse. With only nine runners on the day, Gollan stables secured top three finishes with six of their nine runners.
They kicked off their successful Saturday with a win in race four with four-year-old filly Ponytales making it two wins in a row this campaign. After jumping well, she settled fifth in the field before speeding up to sit three behind the leader for the majority of the race before accelerating on the turn. The young filly finished off strongly to the line, keeping out Waller’s $3.50 favourite Omineca who was also finishing well.
Race five was an easy win for Gollan’s $1.30 favourite Zoustyle, who led easily from start to finish without being asked much. The three-year-old gelding continues his unbeaten run, securing his third win from just three starts in his career so far.
Zoustyle comes from leading Australian sire Zoustar, the same sire as our sold out two-year-old miRunners colt Zoushack, trained by David Hayes. He had his first start on Everest Day and showed a lot of potential finishing off strongly over the last 150m to finish fourth, with Hayes saying the Zoushack will benefit greatly from the run.

The highlight for Gollan Stables’ day was certainly watching stablemates Most Important and I’m A Rippa cross the line first and third in the $125k Listed Keith Noud Quality Handicap.
Six-year-old gelding Most Important has contested this particular race for the past two years, finishing third two years ago and sixth last year before finally winning his third attempt by a half-head on Saturday. Carrying the top weight of 60kg, he was understandably not well found in the betting at $19 but managed to strongly hold off $3 favourite Victorem to win impressively with Jim Byrne in the saddle.
Queensland based Jockey Jim Byrne said Most Important showed his true class in the straight, proving to be just too strong to the line.
“He’s a genuine weight-for-age horse and he’s strong enough to handle the big weights,” Byrne said.
“When I saw him bouncing around the yard before the race I knew he was going to put in a big run.”
Trainer Tony Gollan described it as a huge win for Most Important, as he has now accumulated almost $1 million in prize money so far over his six-year career.
“To the horse’s credit it was just a huge win,” Gollan said. “You could see Jimmy was waiting and waiting and didn’t want to go, he was half exposed.
“Both him and I’m A Rippa I thought ran out of their skins.”
Gollan Stables topped off their incredible day with a win in race 9 with $23 outsider El Campeador leading from start to finish and proving too strong for the fast finishing, well-tried favourite Magnufighter.
