Cross Counter, ridden by the now three-time winning Melbourne Cup jockey, Kerrin McEvoy, has won the 2018 Melbourne Cup ahead of Marmelo and A Prince Of Arran.
McEvoy also rode the winner in the recent Everest and rode miRunners thoroughbred, Zoushack, on Everest Day.

• He won his maiden Melbourne Cup in 2000 on Brew and his second on Almandin in 2016.
• He won The Everest in 2017 on Redzel and is backing up again this year aiming for the repeat.
• He won the Caulfield Cup in 2008
• He won the Golden Slipper in 2011
• McEvoy rode for Godolphin for 11 years and savoured over 500 winners in that time, resigning in 2014 to become a highly successful freelance rider.
• More recently, he enjoyed stunning success in 2016-17 with nine Group I wins in the season.

“To me, the Melbourne Cup is still the holy grail but The Everest is a race which we needed to capture a younger market and one we’re all desperate to win. “ Kerrin shared with the SMH.
“While I’m so excited to have the chance to win The Everest again, it’s heartbreaking to not be able to ride The Autumn Sun in the Caulfield Guineas. But that’s what The Everest has done, it’s got us ducking and weaving from other states to ensure we have a ride in Sydney on the day.
