It’s well documented in science and sports arenas that being a part of a team intensifies the highs experienced by the individual members of the team. Team Geelong – the first community horse to be released by miRunners and in partnership with Geelong Race Club – is giving you the chance to experience this sensation with ownership on the Not a Royal Doubt X Countess Dehere filly.
When you join a team you join a group of like minded people. It could be a team of volunteers, it could be a team of players or it could be a team of supporters. The key is you become one of many who all get enjoyment from the same mutual goal and this enjoyment then multiplies.
A group of researchers at Oxford University studied this and discovered it was more than just a matter of being happier when joining a team.

“Previous research suggests that synchronised physical activity such as laughter, music and many religious activities makes people happier and is part of the bonding process,” said Robin Dunbar, a co-author and head of the institute of cognitive and evolutionary anthropology at Oxford.
“Our study shows us is that synchrony alone seems to ramp up the production of endorphins so as to heighten the effect when we do these activities in groups,” he added.
So working as a group is now thought to boost the rush of endorphins, a feel-good chemical that is released in the brain and helps dampen down feelings of pain.

This could explain why some people seem to live for their team. They aren’t an active player on the team but as a supporter they are affected in the same way. Every moment their team has on the field, on the track or in the stadium feels as if they are experiencing it.
If racing is your sport then being an owner in a team thoroughbred brings this rush of endorphins to you.
You will experience the rush when you name your thoroughbred.
You will experience the rush when you design your thoroughbreds colours.
You will experience the rush when you meet your thoroughbred.
You will experience the rush when you meet your trainer.
You will experience that rush when you read your weekly report on how your thoroughbred is progressing.
You will experience the rush when race day arrives and your team erupts as your colours are hurtling down the straight.

Just like being a member of a footy team or having a membership in a Big Bash Cricket team, being an owner in a thoroughbred team brings you together with one common goal and a rush of endorphins.
