miRunners has turned the racing industry on its head by offering ownership in top quality thoroughbreds trained by people such as Gai Waterhouse and Mick Price at an affordable price.
With ownership costing $275 (plus $15 a month), ownership – which used to be out of reach to everyone except the very rich – is now available to all Australians.
With the low cost of entry, many people have asked if miRunners is too good to be true, so we spoke to a number of miRunners owners from a variety of backgrounds to get their take on the experience.

Alan Cundall owns a car detailing business in Perth and used to run his own business as a butcher in New Zealand.
His wife bought him a unit in Saganaki as an early birthday present and it sparked a love affair with Alan’s entire family getting involved.
“I enjoyed being a thoroughbred owner so I spoke to a couple of friends who each bought a unit, then one of my wife’s friends bought a unit. Not wanting to be left out, my wife then bought a unit of her own, then my daughter bought a unit and then my son bought one unit – and he loved the experience so much, he bought another nine!” said Alan.

“With a group of us all owning units it’s a great thing to share and discuss together. We enjoy receiving the weekly updates on Saganaki’s progress, my daughter will phone with news, we update our friends in the pub and we love having all this information from the miRunners team.
“It’s a great concept, you’re kept up-to-date, you know what’s going on week-to-week, you’re involved with a very special experience – and all for the price of a weekly beer once you’ve purchased your unit!”
The beauty of miRunners is that it allows everyday people the chance to own a premium racehorse, trained by a top class trainer and be treated just like any millionaire owner. It’s a full ownership experience for an affordable price.
Owners such as Wendy Farrow and Steven Williams have loved the experience, especially the communications received and how they’ve been treated.
“We came on board with miRunners and from the first day we have been treated like 100% owners with great communications and updates: all for a few hundred dollars! We are really happy with our experience,” said Wendy.
“I am having a great time being involved with MiRunners. Everyone is equal and gets the same treatment as others. The communication keeps me up to date with how my horse is going and every comment I make is given a prompt reply,” agreed Steven.
It doesn’t matter if you have a deep-rooted connection with the racing industry, or if it’s just a passing interest in horses, miRunners gives you an experience you will never forget. Just take someone like Julie Snook who has a long family history with horseracing.
“I grew up with horses, I’ve been close to horses all my life and my parents still are. My Mum was a strapper with the John Poletti stables in the late 1970s so I’ve always enjoyed being around horses and they have been a big part of my life from day one,” explained Julie.
“I’ve always wanted to become more involved but until now thoroughbred ownership has always been for the “elite”. MiRunners has changed that.”
“The miRunners concept has made it so achievable to consider owning a racehorse. I have lots of friends calling me to ask about the idea and when I take them through how easy it is, they’re excited about giving it a go themselves. I recently mentioned miRunners to a friend in the media industry and he bought units as Father’s Day gifts which is a lovely thought.”

Others are experiencing the racing industry for the first time through their miRunners ownership, such a founder of The Male Guide, Alex Chapman.
“I love the fact that I’m experiencing something completely new and learning about how a horse is trained. I would love to have his life!” said Alex.
Even someone like LaToyah Asha James, who has had a long love affair with horses and is heavily involved in riding schools, is only now having her first foray into the racing industry because of miRunners.
“I love that miRunners has given me the chance to become an owner. I never thought I would have been able to do so. Now that I watch and learn more about the beautiful colt, I can’t wait to see him on the track,” said LaToyah.
“What’s great about all of this is that it’s an experience that anyone with can share. I haven’t won a lottery, and I’m not independently-wealthy, yet here I am, part-owner of my own horse! And it’s an ownership model and mechanism that simply works, and works simply.”
The point is that no matter who you are, what your background is and where you live, miRunners can give you an experience that previously would have cost you thousands. And that experience will be a highlight.
How it works
miRunners purchases a high quality racehorse and divides it into 1,000 ownership units. This makes it affordable to all Australians. miRunners then hires one of Australia’s best trainers for the horse. The $15 monthly fee covers training, insurance, vet fees, transport, administration, legal and other costs.
