What is Magic Millions?
Magic Millions is an Australian thoroughbred racehorse auction house which holds auctions around Australia each year including its world famous Gold Coast Yearling Sale at Surfers Paradise in Queensland.
What’s happening at Magic Millions this year?
On the Gold Coast, seven days of yearling sales are joined by a major thoroughbred horse race meeting where all nine races are only open to horses who were bought at auctions staged by Magic Millions over the previous years.
In addition to race prizemoney of $2,000,000, a $500,000 Bonus will be distributed to the first four all female owned or leased horses in finishing order in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic, being run on Saturday 13 January 2018. To be eligible, the horse must be nominated to the Magic Millions Race Series, and be 100% owned or leased by females.
The Gold Coast Raceday alone boasts prize-money of $10 million and was the first race meeting held in Australasia with a $10 million total purse.
2018 Gold Coast Yearling Sale
From Wednesday 10 January until Tuesday 16 January, some of the biggest names in racing will all be vying to purchase from the catalogue of over 1,000 horses across the week at Surfers Paradise in Queensland.
The Gold Coast Yearling Sale is considered to be a top level auction in global racing circles, with buyers mainly from Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Europe, South Africa, New Zealand, China, the United States and the Middle East.

2018 Gold Coast Magic Millions Race Day
The sale itself is just one aspect of Australia’s most exciting sales and racing event, which commences with the Pacific Fair Magic Millions Polo on Sunday 7 January.
Saturday 13 January sees the third running of the $10 million Magic Millions Raceday at the Gold Coast Turf Club.
With seven of nine races worth $1 million or more in prize-money highlighted by the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic and $2 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas, the Raceday will showcase Australian racing’s top horses, trainers and jockeys.
History of Magic Millions
In the late 1990s Magic Millions was bought by three business men, including the Australian retail entrepreneur and horse breeder Gerry Harvey and Australian advertising entrepreneur John Singleton. Both set about reviving the fortunes of the auction. As of 2015, Magic Millions is co-owned by Harvey and his wife and business partner, Katie Page. The company is now owned in its entirety by Gerry Harvey and Katie Page after they purchased interests of the other partners in 2011.
Magic Millions has sold many champions over the years including the current world’s best turf galloper Winx – a $230,000 purchase from the 2013 Gold Coast Yearling Sale who has won 15 Group One races including 22 in succession.
Champion racehorse #Winx has defeated 52 individual Group One winners so far in her 32 start career.
