Ever wondered why miRunners chose Emeran Park for Saganaki’s education and spelling? Here’s why.
A successful career in the city as a journalist never truly satisfied Shannon Betts’ passion for all things thoroughbred so she decided to follow her passion and set-up Emeran Park.
Now one of the most sought-after farms in Australia and with a long list of super stars calling it their home away from home, Shannon is truly living her dream.
Emeran Park is set in the hills of the Dooralong Valley and this landscape was a major reason Shannon chose this location with the hills working the horses, helping the yearlings build muscle and bone density. Add in an evergreen pasture and temperate conditions year-round mean this is a perfect location.
Today, the boutique farm has 50-60 horses year round and from last season alone had multiple Group 1 winners as residents such as double Group 1 winner Global Glamour and 2017 Magic Millions Sprint winner Target Insight.

At the heart of the Emeran Park program is the firm belief that a well-balanced horse will always come out on top. Just like an elite athlete, a well-balanced thoroughbred will carry their own weight better and they will avoid the repetitive strain that comes with continuous training. They have less soundness issues and far more up time.
To achieve this balance, the broad education program for the yearlings include cross-training such as swimming, trackwork, trail work, flatwork and jump work. Even a water treadmill, that reduces the concussive joint forces, is employed.
Within the broad program, Emeran Park tailors the work to each horse as an individual. As every horse takes to program differently, and progresses at different rates, personalisation in the work is critical.
