When Mick Price was announced as the trainer for the next miRunners horse, there was excitement amongst existing owners, and rightly so.
After selling out all units in Saganaki before the colt’s first trial, miRunners has bought a second horse in January’s Magic Millions sales on the Gold Coast. We’re delighted that Mick Price will be training that horse, and here’s five reasons you should be delighted too.
1: Mick performs on the big stage
It doesn’t come any bigger than Group 1 racing in Australia, and many trainers go their whole career without tasting success at the highest level. Thankfully, Mick is an expert with 33 Group 1 winners putting him amongst some of the best trainers in the business.
2: Mick knows how to win
Everyone loves a winner, and Mick Price knows that feeling more than most with a win rate of 17%. When you factor in that he’s won 1,989 races to date, that’s a lot of celebrating!

3: Mick’s prize money
Horse ownership is primarily about the experience: private areas at the races, watching your horse grow and learn, and the emotional connection of watching a horse you own on race day. And while it’s not guaranteed, the thought of prize money on offer is always a pleasant one to share in. Mick knows this more than most and he has racked-up over $86 million in prize money for his owners since 2000.
4: Mick is often in the running
Winning isn’t possible all of the time so it’s nice to know you’ll still be in with a shout even if you don’t take top spot on the podium. Mick Price has an incredible place rate (1st, 2nd or 3rd) of 42%, meaning almost half of his runners end up on the podium.
5: Mick believes in miRunners as a concept
Just as Kris Lees did when he signed-up to train the first miRunners horse (Saganaki), every miRunners trainer believes that the model will help change racing for the better. And Mick Price is no different. By making ownership accessible for all Australia, miRunners is introducing new people to the industry and attracting more people to the love of horses and the races. Why don’t you join us?
