miRunners, a business making racehorse ownership affordable to all, is calling on the Australian public to vote on the name for its new colt, recently purchased at the 2017 Magic Millions Sale on the Gold Coast.
UPDATE: Australian public names ground-breaking racehorse
About the colt
By Real Saga, out of Redoute’s Choice mare Cubism, this colt has pedigree on his side and is being trained by one of Australia’s leading trainers, Kris Lees.
Purchased at Magic Millions in January for $165,000, from Queensland-based Glenlogan Park, he was hand-picked by miRunners from thousands of horses.
“We believe this colt has the pedigree, stables, training, early education and management to help him succeed on the track,’ said Chris Ryan, Executive Chairman of miRunners.
The colt was educated at Emeran Park, NSW, and now trains with Kris Lees at Newcastle and Ellalong Farm. Lees is a six-times premiership winning Newcastle trainer and is now positioned as one of the most sort after trainers in Australia.
In the autumn of 2016, Lees hit the international spotlight by winning New South Wales’ richest race, the $4m Group 1, 2000m Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Royal Randwick during The Championships, with Lucia Valentina. Lees has subsequently delivered multiple Group 1 victories for his owners including at Flemington on Derby Day last year.
Lees’ expert view of his new colt “He’s out of one of the best broodmare lines you’ll get in Australia. His full sister ran an unlucky 5th in the big Magic Millions 2yo race and his other full sister impressively won her maiden race as a 2yo, just last month, she looks talented. Given our colt’s attitude and what his two sisters have done our colt should also get up early as a 2yo which is now not far away.
Over 700 names were entered
The first stage of the competition called on the Australian public to submit their suggestions for the name of the colt. Over 700 entries were submitted, the creativity of the entries was definitely something to be admired. The list of 700 names was then put through an approval process, with some names having already been taken or disapproved by Racing Australia. On July 31, the shortlisted names were presented to the owners of the colt, who would then vote on their favourite name.
The Final Five
After much excitement, the initial 700 names submitted by the public, have been drilled down to the final five, as voted by the owners. Here are the top five names as voted by the owners, which will now be open to the public to vote.
- miSaga

If you voted in the first stage of the competition and the name you submitted is one of those final five, congratulations!
